Event Review

SMEs face many hurdles, while meeting defence requirements, which need to be addressed. Some are:

(a) High capital costs.

(b) Low volumes.

(c) Long gestation period of projects.

(d) Getting certification for processes and parts.

(e) Zero defect targets to meet standards of aerospace industry.

(f) Stringent quality assurance standards.

There is a need for SMEs to periodically interact with the Defence Services and particularly with the functionaries who deal with requirements so that expectations of both sides are met efficiently. Such interactions also result in projecting problems and recommendations from all stake holders for better policy formulation.

The first Official SME - Aerospace & Defence Summit is being organized by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) under the aegis of HQ Integrated Defence Staff, to include a seminar and exhibition, on Thurs-Fri 20-21 November 2014 at the Kothari Auditorium, DRDO HQ, New Delhi.

The objectives of the event are:

(a) Facilitate interaction between key officers of the Defence Services with the SMEs.

(b) Facilitate SMEs to put forth their views and discuss issues which can improve responses.

(c) Provide a forum for Defence Services to hear "Who has What" within the country.

(d) Provide an opportunity to PSUs to add new SMEs to their support base.

(e) Provide an opportunity to SMEs to hear the senior MoD and concerned ministry officers about policies and changes in the offing.

(f) Provide an opportunity to SMEs to display their products.
