HFCL offers cutting edge communication technologies in the span of optical, wireline and wireless domain that have equal applications in the telecommunication industry as well as the Armed/Para military Forces. HFCL is now venturing into defense manufacturing segment and plans to bring in state-of-the-art technologies in the field of night vision systems, electronic fuses, EW systems, CBRNE and surveillance. HFCL is exploring Electro Magnetic technology to provide full proof border intrusion solution to the Armed/Para Military Forces.

HFCL entered the Defence Communication infrastructure in 1999, when it commissioned a microwave based communication network project in the Army Northern Command. This project was executed in the counter insurgency areas of J&K. The network extended from Nagrota to Poonch providing reliable backbone communication to remote operational areas. This network is functional till date. In addition HFCL executed a satellite based project in the mountainous terrain of Ladakh. This VSAT based network provides reliable communication to remote posts in High Altitude regions of Kargil, Dras, Thoise, Tangtse, etc; where landline communications are unreliable and prone to frequent disruptions. In recent years, HFCL is laying Optical Fiber for Defense Forces as part of project ‘Network for Spectrum’ (NFS) on behalf of TCIL.

HFCL started active participation in defence infrastructure and manufacturing segment in the year 2014 and actively participated in the NFS projects. Presently, the major projects on our horizon are Cellular CDMA, MINT, AWAN Phase 2, EW suite MI17, HCRR and remaining projects of NFS.
